The Fourth, the cafe at the new East Village Hyatt Hotel, is using a mysteriously-sourced espresso branded Quatrième (which means fourth in French). Except for the strange hanging bed sculpture in the middle of the space, this Tocqueville-run brasserie is a pleasant enough space, especially on a nice day when the 4th Ave wall is open to the sidewalk. Don’t go out of your way to try the bitter $4 espresso though.

Propeller Coffee’s attention to detail is exemplified by the unique demitasse spoons. Located on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint, they use Toby’s Estate coffee.

If you can intersect with Ming at the Greenpoint outpost of Variety Coffee, she’ll pull you the tastiest shot of Ritual Roasters Sweet Tooth espresso you can find in NYC.
The twee-ly named Happy Bones Coffee & Publications has tortoiseshell demitasse spoons. Espresso is Counter Culture, on the bitter side.
Caffe Bene’s Flushing outpost offers beautiful workspace but commodity coffee. Espresso is bearable diluted in water.
Dallis Bros espresso from Teaffee, new spot on Court & 9th Sts. Little flavor beyond burnt, no body. Matcha was good.
